It is likely that, if you have dampness or water incursion into your attics, basement, crawlspaces or wall interiors, there is a risk that mold can develop. High humidity and condensation can also contribute to the creation of mold.
If you suspect you may have mold developing give us a call. We can take a look and offer solutions for removing any mold that has developed and solutions to keep it from returning.
Molds are part of the natural environment. Outdoors, molds play a part in nature by
breaking down dead organic matter such as fallen leaves and dead trees, but indoors, mold growth should be avoided.
- Musty smell, look for candles or air fresheners used to disguise the smell.
- Any old signs of water damage or dampness.
- Discoloration on walls, ceiling or floors, especially on wall paper and around windows.
- Any standing or pooling water, especially around air conditioners, toilets, dishwashers and refrigerator with ice makers.
- Mold testing options:
- Bulk sampling (removing some contaminated material),
- Air sampling (taking samples of air with various instruments to find bioaerosol, or airborne particulate matter arising from living things, such as mold), and
- Surface sampling (the removal of dust with a vacuum device, sticky tape or a swab). These samples are sent to a laboratory for analysis.
- Chlorine Bleach is not effective for killing mold. Bleach is too diluted and thus too weak to permanently kill mold unless the mold is simply sitting on top of a hard surface like a counter top or sink.
